Section 2 AAC 90.455 - Special driver's license: hardship license(a) Because of a death, incapacitating illness, injury, or other unique condition in the immediate family, the department may issue a special driver's license to a person who is 14 or 15 years of age and must drive a motor vehicle to (1) prevent significant financial hardship for the person's family; or(2) transport an ill or disabled family member.(b) A special license issued under this section expires on the licensee's birthday as provided in AS 28.15.101(a), or earlier if the department determines that the reasons for issuing the special license are no longer sufficient, were misrepresented, or the licensee does not comply with the requirements and conditions imposed during the hardship period.(c) An applicant for a special license under this section must submit a written request for a special license. The request must(1) be signed by the applicant's parent or legal guardian;(2) specify the conditions of hardship; and(3) indicate the period of time the special license is necessary.(d) Except for the age requirement, an applicant for a special license must meet all requirements in AS 28.15.055 for a provisional driver's license.Eff. 7/1/2006, Register 178; am 1/1/2011, Register 196Authority:AS 28.05.011
