Section 7067 - Army Medical Department

There is an Army Medical Department in the Army. The Army Medical Department consists of-

(1) the Surgeon General;
(2) the Assistant Surgeons General;
(3) the Medical Corps;
(4) the Dental Corps;
(5) the Veterinary Corps;
(6) the Medical Service Corps;
(7) the Army Nurse Corps; and
(8) the Army Medical Specialist Corps.

EFFECTIVE DATE OF 2018 AMENDMENT Amendment by Pub. L. 115-232 effective Feb. 1, 2019, with provision for the coordination of amendments and special rule for certain redesignations, see section 800 of Pub. L. 115-232, set out as a note preceding section 3001 of this title.

AUGMENTATION OF ARMY MEDICAL DEPARTMENT BY DETAILING RESERVE OFFICERS OF PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE Pub. L. 106-398, §1[[div. A], title VII, §755(a), (b)], Oct. 30, 2000, 114 Stat. 1654, 1654A-197, provided that:"(a) AUTHORITY.-The Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of Health and Human Services may jointly conduct a program to augment the Army Medical Department by exercising any authorities provided to those officials in law for the detailing of reserve commissioned officers of the Public Health Service not in an active status to the Army Medical Department for that purpose."(b) AGREEMENT.-The Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of Health and Human Services shall enter into an agreement governing any program conducted under subsection (a)."

active status
The term "active status" means the status of a member of a reserve component who is not in the inactive Army National Guard or inactive Air National Guard, on an inactive status list, or in the Retired Reserve.
