Section 13:5721 - Regional forensic science centerA.(1) A regional forensic science center is hereby established to be composed of the parishes of Assumption, Jefferson, Orleans, Lafourche, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Terrebonne, and Washington.(2) The center shall be governed by a board of directors to be composed of the coroners of the parishes comprising the center.(3) The center shall perform such examinations as the board of directors sees fit as well as perform such other functions as determined by a majority of the board.(4) Fees for work performed by the center shall be determined by the board in an amount sufficient to cover the operating cost of the center.(5) The cost of equipment and maintenance of the center shall be shared on a just and agreeable basis by the participating parishes.B. No inmate within the custody of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall be housed, serviced, or maintained at such a center if it is located within one mile of a residential area.
