§ 288. Health service for Vieques and Culebra—Regulations; agreements for services

The Department of Health is hereby authorized to establish, in consultation with the mayor of Vieques, a system whereby to afford such health services to the residents of the municipalities of Vieques and Culebra, and to prepare the necessary regulations so that, while the utilization of these facilities by low-income persons is not hindered, it will be permissible to charge, in whole or in part, for the health service thereby provided to persons who can afford to pay, or to collect from the insurers thereof.

The Secretary of Health is also hereby authorized, in consultation with the mayor of Vieques, to covenant with agencies and instrumentalities of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or of the federal government of the United States of America, and with associations, persons or private groups from Vieques or Culebra, for the rendering of these services to the persons working for these agencies, associations, or instrumentalities, etc.
