§ 4888. Alteration or mutilation of property

Any public officer or employee who is in charge of or has control over any property, file, record, document, electronic register or any other type of register or data bank, whether hard copy or electronic, and who alters, destroys, mutilates, removes or conceals the same in whole or in part, shall incur a fourth degree felony.

In the event of loss of public property or funds, the court may also impose restitution.
