No person shall sell, deliver, prepare, put up, expose or offer for sale any lard, or any article intended for use as lard, which contains any ingredient except the pure fat of swine, in any tierce, bucket, pail or other vessel or wrapper, or under any label bearing the words "pure", "refined", "family", or either of them, alone or in combination with other words; but each vessel, wrapper or label in or under which such article is prepared, put up or exposed for sale, sold or delivered by him shall bear on the top or outer side thereof, in letters not less than one half inch in length and plainly exposed to view, the words "compound lard". Whoever violates any provision of this section shall for the first offence be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars and for a subsequent offence by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars.
