Section 10-2-125 - Employees
(a) The House Management Committee with the approval of the Speaker of the House of Representatives may employ at its discretion employees of the House of Representatives and may transfer or discharge any employee if it is deemed in the best interest of the House of Representatives.
(b)
(1) The Senate Efficiency Committee at its discretion and subject to the approval of the Senate may employ, transfer, or discharge Senate employees if it is determined by the Senate Efficiency Committee to be in the best interest of the Senate.
(2) The actual salaries to be paid to employees of the Senate shall be determined by the Senate Efficiency Committee within the funds, appropriations, and maximum annual salaries as may be available.
(c)
(1) Both the House of Representatives and the Senate may hire and employ in the manner described under this section security personnel to maintain peaceful order and provide protection to the members and staff of the General Assembly during meetings or other official functions of the General Assembly.
(2)
(A) Personnel designated by the House of Representatives or the Senate as security personnel are considered full-time law enforcement officers with the full range of responsibilities and authority as are afforded to a law enforcement officer certified by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
(B) The House of Representatives and the Senate may set their own training and qualification standards for security personnel employed by the respective chamber.
(C) The commission shall permit security personnel employed by the General Assembly access to all law enforcement training generally available to other law enforcement personnel and shall make the law enforcement certification process available to security personnel employed by the General Assembly.
(3) Security personnel employed by the House of Representatives or the Senate shall have statewide jurisdiction while the security personnel are acting within the scope of their employment.
