Section 35.10 - Acceptable proof of insurance

A New York State insurance ID card issued by an insurance company, agent or broker licensed by the NYS Department of Financial Services in accordance with Part 32 of this Title. The insurance company shall be one assigned an insurance company code (ICC) in accordance with Part 34 of this Title. A New York Automobile Insurance Plan (NYAIP) Temporary New York State Insurance Identification Card shall be accepted for registration only. A NYAIP Temporary New York State Insurance Identification Card shall not be accepted as proof of insurance for any nonregistration activity including but not limited to responding to a registrant inquiry letter and suspension or revocation order. DMV shall not accept a second insurance ID card from a registrant for the same insurance company with the same effective date if the validity of the earlier insurance ID card from that insurance company is at issue or if the insurance ID card has been repudiated by that insurance company.
