Section R. 400.1912 - Infant; child; resting; sleeping; supervisionRule 12.
(1) Infants, birth to 12 months of age, shall be placed on their backs for resting and sleeping.(2) Infants unable to roll from their stomachs to their backs, and from their backs to their stomachs, shall be placed on their backs when found in any other position.(3) When infants can easily turn over from their stomachs to their backs and from their backs to their stomachs, they shall be initially placed on their backs, but allowed to adopt whatever position they prefer for sleeping.(4) If a child has a health issue or a special need that requires the child sleep in an alternate position or in something other than a crib, porta-crib, or play yard for infants and toddlers, or cot or mat for toddlers, documentation from the child's health care provider is required. The documentation must include specific sleeping instructions and time frames for how long the child needs to sleep in this manner and include an anticipated end date.(5) Personnel shall maintain supervision and monitor infants' breathing, sleep position, bedding, and possible signs of distress, except as provided in R 400.1922.(6) Video surveillance equipment and baby monitors must not be used in place of subrule (5) of this rule.Mich.
