Section 28-35-135q - DefinitionsAs used in these regulations, each of the following terms shall have the meaning assigned in this regulation:
(a) "Qualified expert" means an individual having the knowledge and training to measure ionizing radiation, to evaluate safety techniques, and to advise regarding radiation protection needs. (1) This term shall include any individual certified in the appropriate field by any of the following, or an individual with equivalent qualifications as determined by the secretary: (A) The American board of radiology; (B) the American board of health physics; or (C) the American board of medical physics. (2) With reference to the calibration of radiation therapy equipment, this term shall include any individual having, in addition to the qualifications specified in paragraph (1) of this subsection, training and experience in the clinical applications of radiation physics to radiation therapy, including any individual certified in either of the following, or an individual with equivalent qualifications as determined by the secretary: (A) Therapeutic radiological physics by the American board of radiology; or (B) X-ray and radium physics by the American board of radiology. (b) "Quality factor (Q)" means the modifying factor, as listed in tables I and II in K.A.R. 28-35-144a, used to derive the dose equivalent from the absorbed dose. (c) "Quarter" means a period of time that is equal to one-fourth of the year and is approximately 13 consecutive weeks. The beginning of the first quarter in each year shall coincide with the starting date of the year, and no day shall be omitted or duplicated in consecutive quarters. Kan. Admin. Regs. § 28-35-135q
