Section 10-145d-405 - Assessment requirement exceptions(a)Nondegreed educators. Except as otherwise provided in subsection (e) of this section, to be eligible for a certificate for subject areas or fields for which a bachelor's degree from an approved institution is not required, any applicant who is otherwise eligible for certification in those endorsement areas shall be entitled to certification for a period not to exceed two years, without having met the requirement of PRAXIS I. Such certificate may be extended in accordance with Section 10-145d-427.(b)Deferral of testing requirements. A nonrenewable interim educator certificate, valid until the beginning of the school year subsequent to the school year in which it is issued, shall be issued to any person who meets the specific requirements for an initial educator or provisional educator certificate, excluding successful completion of PRAXIS I, PRAXIS II, and CONNECT, as appropriate, if such person: (1) Has resided in a state other than Connecticut during the year immediately preceding application for certification in Connecticut; and holds current teacher certification in a state other than Connecticut; and has completed at least 10 school months of successful teaching in another state in a public or nonpublic school approved by the appropriate governing body in another state; or(2) Has graduated from a teacher preparation program at an approved institution outside of the state.(c)Bilingual educators. Persons applying for initial educator certificates for bilingual education pursuant to subsection (a) of Section 10-145d-477, shall not be required to present evidence of having met the requirement of PRAXIS I to obtain initial certification. Such persons shall be required to present evidence of having met the requirement of PRAXIS I to obtain provisional certification, except that on and after July 1, 1998, persons applying for initial educator certificate for bilingual education shall be required to present evidence of having met the requirement of PRAXIS I.(d)School business administrators. Persons applying for initial educator certificates for school business administrators shall not be required to present evidence of having met assessment requirements to obtain certification.(e) The Commissioner may waive the PRAXIS I requirement for a person applying for initial educator certificate for occupational subjects in vocational-technical schools, trade- related subjects in vocational-technical schools, trade and industrial occupational subjects in comprehensive high schools, and health occupation instruction in vocational-technical schools.Conn.
