Opinion

Present — Bergan, P.J., Coon, Herlihy, Reynolds and Taylor, JJ.

Appeal from a decision and award of the Workmen's Compensation Board. The facts in this record fall within the pattern of cardiac failure induced by physical effort in which compensation awards have been sustained in many cases. Claimant's husband was engaged in strenuous physical effort as a meat "lugger" in a packing plant. He was loading and tugging pieces of meat weighing from 150 to 300 pounds when he became ill. A coemployee who usually helped him was not there that day. Although ill, he continued working. He suffered further pains the next day; and two days after the incident at work he was given hospital treatment. He was sent back to the hospital the following day and died three days later of myocardial infarction and rupture of the anterior wall of the left ventricle. There is adequate medical testimony connecting the strenuous effort and the subsequent death. Award unanimously affirmed, with costs to the Workmen's Compensation Board.
